The Sterling Stars is our Middle School chorus. This group of 7th and 8th graders performs many types of music throughout the school year and represents Sterling at musical events. This group spreads musical joy throughout our school at Christmas and Valentine’s Day by performing singing-grams to students, teachers, and administrators.
The upper elementary chorus is our performing group for 4th-6th grade students. They perform two concerts a year and several informal concerts on campus. This group meets on Thursdays during the school day. Our Upper Elementary chorus currently has 50 students participating, and they are busy learning the basics of singing and how to make recordings.
Our new Beginning Band meets on Tuesday and Friday afternoons from 3:15-4:30pm. This 25-member band is made up of 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students who are learning a new instrument for the first time. They will perform two concerts this year. After successful completion of this year of studies, students will be eligible to move on to the Sterling Band.
Comprised of students in grades 5-8, Sterling Band meets after school from 3:15-4:30pm on Monday and Wednesday afternoons. Students learn to play woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. Instruments currently in band are flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, alto saxophone, mallet percussion, and non-pitched percussion (drums, cymbals, etc.). This year we are excited to add a bass clarinet, tenor saxophone, and piccolo to our band program. Band performs several times a year and travels in May to Carowinds to perform for ratings and review.
