Sterling’s educational programs are based on children’s developmental needs and creates freedom within limits through a carefully planned environment. Under the guidance of their teachers, children in Montessori classes learn at their own pace and according to their own choice of activities from hundreds of possibilities. This prepared environment allows exposure to materials and experiences that develop intelligence as well as physical and psychological abilities. Montessori materials are self-correcting, interesting to children and developmentally appropriate. A student’s work at Sterling is an exciting process of discovery, leading to concentration, motivation, self-discipline, and a love of learning.
Sterling’s leadership understands that a child’s intellectual growth will improve with social growth. Our educators understand how students learn and provide the perfect foundation for the life-long learners our community and our economy so need. These principles emphasize learning through all five senses, not just through listening, watching, or reading Montessori’s educational philosophy is multi-sensory, multi-aged, and child centered. Our staff and faculty will consistenly use terminology Dr. Montessori introduced that help guide parents on how children grow and learn. You will hear concepts like "Planes of Development", "Concrete to abstract", "Freedom within limits", and "Prepared environment" that describe components of Montessori pedagogy. For more information on Montessori terminology please visit this guide from the American Montessori Society.
